Beautiful calming place with a wandering walk. Wished for more plant labels as some were missing or non-existent and you want that plant your yard. So need to do a little searching. Greenhouse felt oh hum.

Start with the greenhouse. That's my honest advice for first-time visitors to the Cohn Arboretum. Walk straight to the Orchid and Bromeliad House and let it set the tone. It's vivid, alive, and genuinely surprising: a warm, colorful pocket of tropical specimens that feels worlds away from the live oaks shading the entrance path. The arboretum itself carries a personal history worth knowing. Laurens Henry Cohn Sr. was a World War I veteran and devoted naturalist with a passion for both native and exotic plants. His wife Maggie donated the land to BREC in 1965 to honor his memory, and the property opened to the public in 1980 β€” originally the family's own home and grounds. That legacy shapes the feel of the place. This isn't a manicured botanical showpiece. It's a working garden with roots. The 16-acre grounds include a Japanese Maple collection, a Tropical House, a Camellia Collection, an Evergreen and Conifer Collection, a Crape-myrtle Collection, and an Herb/Fragrance Garden, along with a fruit orchard, bamboo grove, and butterfly garden. The range is genuinely impressive for a free public space. You'll find familiar species alongside some less common specimens β€” a mix that reward

This place looks as if it was once a persons personal property then was given to Brec. It is nice but it is not in its heyday. Much is in need of attention and the many of the catwalks are closed due to deterioration. The staff is nice but they are just enough to keep the place open and clean but it needs some true upkeep by a true gardener who sees the potential. While overall its a peaceful place and good to learn or show others about the local plants, it could use some good garden upgrades and new plantings in many areas. There are a few areas in there I’m not sure why they are not prized by the staff, maybe its budget or maybe its lack of drive but the entrance and greenhouse I would think would be the most impressive and bring a lot of attention if it were just cared for and treated like a true garden space. The greenhouse has such potential and would not take as much effort to make a wonderful space. A little attention to details and perhaps more of a theme and it would be great, updates the things in disrepair and add a good irrigation system and it would be easy. I know I have gone on about the negative side of this place but it’s because it’s almost great. With the things

Really enjoyed this. Short but beautiful trail with the kids. Had a blast and even got rained on. One of the bridges was out so that was a little cumbersome to run with the kids back to the truck when the storm came. But the mosquito population was low, and the flowers and plants where unique and gorgeous. Well taken care of.

Beautiful garden with various plants, trees, flowers, fruits, and vegetables growing. There is also an old slave house that can be toured if it's not a holiday. I like to go and walk around.
